A Word from the Editor

Many of us are still sheltering at home, staying safe, and reading more. In which case, Mysterical-E has a plump new issue to add to your reading material. And to comment on — now that we have that feature set up. Those who wrote this issue’s stories and features enjoy hearing from readers.

It’s getting chillier now that fall is here and, while any weather is good reading weather, the chillier times when one can huddle with a cup of coffee and an issue of Mysterical-E are even more amenable to reading. This issue of Mysterical-E has a number of stories, three book excerpts, and several interviews, as well as our stalwart columnists who provide us with a Mysterical-Eye on TV, Hollywood, and more, and the What’s your Process? feature which gives you a sense of how some writers go about planning their mysteries.

On a personal note, I’m happy to announce the publication of the fifth book in my Marco Fontana Mysteries series, The Vermilion Pursuit. It will be available in November in all the usual places.

In this outing Marco finds himself in the art world.

In the fifth book of the Marco Fontana Mysteries, Marco is thrilled to spend time with his seldom-seen uncle, Luciano. Their reunion, however, turns deadly. Luciano is in a tough position as chair of a contentious committee which will decide the authenticity of a purported Botticelli. Battle lines are drawn and tempers flare. Before long, Luciano is discovered standing over the body of Morgan Cooper, his old enemy and committee rival. The police focus on Luciano forcing Marco to prove his uncle’s innocence. Complications like the informal competition over forgeries by Vermilion and the contest for a prestigious museum directorship may play a part along with the supposed Botticelli—making the search for the killer seem impossible. At the same time, Marco contends with knotty personal issues and problems among his friends and members of his male strip troupe. Marco juggles everything but will he be able to save his uncle before he’s arrested or will The Vermilion Pursuit claim another victim?

The Vermilion Pursuit will be available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, and other outlets.
