PREDATOR by Eric E. Wallace At dawn, he crossed into Idaho, his van’s hungry shadow prowling ahead. He cruised into Boise, slept, dreamless, at an indifferent motel. Ate a tasteless meal at a forgettable diner. Soon he was casing downtown bars. By nine he sipped at the first hot spot, alert. Anonymous. By eleven, in the third place, he found her tucked amidst a group of giggling women. Brunette, leggy, needful eyes exploring. Delicious. By midnight, she sat close to him in another bar, darker. Destined for a much darker space still. Later, he drove the starlit highway west, his voices already reawakening, whispering, pulling. Consuming. ERIC E. WALLACE writes fiction, poetry, plays and humor. His work has been published in Alaska Magazine, Alaska Quarterly Review, Writers Digest and many other periodicals, in five anthologies, and online at WritersWeekly.com, where he has won several short story competitions. His plays have been produced in Alaska, Scotland and England, and have had readings in five Western states. Eric lives in Eagle, Idaho. |
