In THE HEARSE CASE SCENARIO we are introduced to Pete, a hardened private investigator and Lee Cromwell, the kind of jazz singer that harkens back to the spell casting sirens of the forties. The trumpet player is the real kick with his costumes and theatrics. That’s just a taste of the ambience around the crime or more appropriately - crimes. The story starts off when a childhood friend, Lucy, confesses to Hitch that she shot Shrimp, a club owner that did her wrong. Shrimp is touch and go at the hospital though it looks like he’s going to make it but then things get a little complicated. It all centers on the fact that a beautiful co-ed was found dead in a dumpster outside Shrimp’s club. Then Shrimp’s younger brother, a sweet kid who idolized his big brother, goes missing. So many people get dead in this story that you can see how it might be good for the undertaker business. Luckily, there are more suspects than there are dead bodies so you get a real flavor of Baltimore, the city and its people. I enjoyed THE HEARSE CASE SCENARIO and look forward to the next Hitchcock hearse adventure. |
