The simultaneous crash of our TV and our DVD player a few months ago left us film-deprived but coping, with the help of the late night political talk shows that we accessed on our computer. So thank you CNN and MSNBC
Of course we went to the movies on those rare occasions when something non-violent and intended for adults was playing. Also we were lucky in that the couple who run movie night at our community center once a month have great taste in films–i.e. they like the same kind of movies we do.
That said, we still missed sitting on our own couch with our own tea and cookies to watch a movie at home.
Then one day while fiddling around on the computer it occurred to me that since we use YouTube to find all kinds of things, it might also be able to help us find films that we could watch on our computer. Easy enough to do a search, which is what I did.
The good news: yes, it is possible to find films on You Tube. Not all of them are free, and not all are the kind of films I was looking for, but many were, including classic films like “Charade” which we recently watched: a fine romantic suspense film with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn.
One note: While watching the film there will be occasional commercial interruptions. However these are less irritating than you might expect because the viewer is invited to end the commercial quickly by clicking on the screen.
In our house it’s also an opportunity to refill the teacups and the cookie plate.
