Book Review: One of Us by Lorie Lewis Ham

In this well plotted mystery, children’s book author Roxi Carlucci must start over after her publisher drops her book series. She decides to pack up and, along with her pet rat Merlin, she moves in with her cousin, P.I. Stephen Carlucci, in Fresno, CA. One good thing about her new home is that it’s in the cultural center of Fresno, the Tower District. Her cousin, wanting to help her adjust, talks Roxi into joining a community theatre production, which is a fundraiser for a local animal rescue. Roxi is shocked in her new endeavor because someone is murdered during a rehearsal. As things would have it, she and Stephen are hired to find the killer who has to be one of those involved in the theater production since the theatre was locked at the time of the murder. There is no clear motive and plenty of characters and excitement. A local gossip website may hold some answers but Roxi fears that things can’t be nailed down quickly enough to stop the killer from striking again.
