He Said, She Says
PREDATOR
by Eric E. Wallace

At dawn, he crossed into Idaho, his van’s hungry shadow prowling ahead.

He cruised into Boise, slept, dreamless, at an indifferent motel. Ate a tasteless meal at a forgettable diner.

Soon he was casing downtown bars. By nine he sipped at the first hot spot, alert. Anonymous.

By eleven, in the third place, he found her tucked amidst a group of giggling women. Brunette, leggy, needful eyes exploring. Delicious.

By midnight, she sat close to him in another bar, darker.

Destined for a much darker space still.

Later, he drove the starlit highway west, his voices already reawakening, whispering, pulling. Consuming.
