Don't mess with Mother Nature!

REPAID DEBTS

Sandra Seamans

"What we done to Pete don't matter none. He was a loser," said Tom as he threw the last shovel full of dirt on the make-shift grave.

"It ain't right," replied Ted.

"Don't matter now. He's dead and underground."

"Still ain't right," muttered Ted.

"Right or wrong ain't got nothin' to do with it. Ain't nobody gonna miss Pete. All you gotta do is keep your lips from flappin' and we don't cry and fry."

Walking back to the pickup, they heard a wolf howl up on the ridge.

Ted shivered, "Pete told me once that he loosed a wolf from one of your traps."

"And that's why we planted him. He didn't have no right messin' with my trap line. He cheated me out of my bounty money lettin' that wolf go free."

A low growl sound from the brush. Tom reached into the truck, grabbing for his ten gauge. Before his hands could latch onto the gun, a set of fangs sank deep into his leg. He spun around. Another set of teeth found a better purchase in his throat.

Ted dove into the truck slamming the door behind him. He watched as the wolf shredded Tom's throat. Heard his screams as the pack pulled his body apart before he took his last breath."

"I told him it wasn't right."
