MYSTERICAL-E FOR KIDS

Kids love mysteries, too. Coming Spring, 2006 A family oriented section of Mysterical-E containing fun mystery and mysterious stories and articles for ages 8 and up.

We're looking for wholesome stories and mystery related non-fiction and reviews. Please see our Submission Guidelines below for format information.

 

GUIDELINES

What We Are Looking For

Mysterical-E Kids is an online mystery magazine for children and their families. We are looking for fiction, non-fiction and puzzles with a mystery or mysterious angle. We are open to submissions from adults and children ages 8 and up.

Children: Send us your best writing. Your story should include a mystery or some type of mysterious situation. Science fiction is also accepted. Include your name and age with your submission. Length up to 3,000 words.

Fiction: Traditional mysteries, solve-it-yourself mysteries, suspense, science fiction. Length up to 4,000 words. Query for longer pieces.

Non-Fiction: Interviews with mystery/science fiction authors or people somehow involved in the field, reviews of books and websites. Articles relating to mystery subjects. Length up to 4,000 words. Query for longer pieces

Puzzles: crosswords, word puzzles, mazes, etc.

Submission Guidelines

Please note: READ these guidelines and follow them, or we will return your submission to you without reading or considering it. This is for your protection as well as ours.

Writers are invited to send quality work, which will remain on our website for the life of an issue (right now about 3 months) and in our Archives. Being featured in Mysterical-E Kids means you're a published writer and as such have rights to your work. We ask first-time electronic rights and archival rights. All other rights revert to the author.

We welcome submissions from anywhere in the world.

Length: Stories, interviews, articles, reviews up to 4,000 words. Query for longer pieces.

Multiple submissions are accepted.

Simultaneous submissions are not accepted.

Reprints, with proper credit and permissions, will be considered.

Payment: Right now Mysterical-E Kids is not a paying market.

Format Guidelines

Send ONLY MSWord attachments. Or send the story in the body of your e-mail. And please follow this style format:
Single space your story/article/etc. THEN double space between paragraphs (even one line graphs) and double space between lines of dialogue.

Do not indent at the beginning of paragraphs.

Use: Times New Roman (only) 12 point

Submissions should be sent via e-mail to: kathy@mystericale.com

In the subject line put: Submission—the title of your work.

Queries may also be sent to kathy@mystercale.com

At the top of your submission please include the following:
Your Name
Your Street Address
Your Telephone number(s)
Your e-mail address (stipulate whether or not you want your e-mail address listed with your by-line. If we receive no information from you regarding this we will consider that you wish to have your e-mail address listed with your article and may do so).
The name you wish us to use on the piece if it is accepted.
List category: story, interview, article, review, other
Title of your story
Word Count

At the end of the piece please append a SHORT (75-100 word) bio.

If your work is accepted, you will be asked to respond to an e-mail containing a standard release and your acceptance of its terms. Below is an example of such a release:
I (your name & pseudonym, if applicable) certify that I am the writer/artist of the work being submitted to Mysterical-E Kids. Work being submitted has not been published previously online or in print. I also agree that Mysterical-E Kids may archive my work after initial publication. I further agree that Mysterical-E Kids may consider my work for print/electronic publication in a "best of" anthology at some point. I retain all rights to my work except First North American Rights and anthology rights. My copyright remains mine throughout the process. If my work should appear elsewhere after having been selected for publication, it will be noted that it first appeared in Mysterical-E Kids located at http://www.mystericalekids.com .

All submissions must be your original work. The author is responsible for the work featured on the site and Mysterical-E accepts no liability for misuse of any kind.

In addition, we cannot be responsible for someone stealing your material from this site.
