"Never thought I'd see Laura camping. You?"

"Not in a million. Weren't those eclairs to die for?"

"For heaven's sakes Melody. Watch what you say."

"I hate going to funerals. This one's been worth it though. Food's divine."

"Is that all you can think of? Laura must be devastated losing Jack."

"Come on Fran, everyone knows the shitty way he treated her. Speaking of which, there's no toilet paper in here. Be a doll and pass some over."

"Language!"

"Sorry."

Here, is that enough?"

"I'll let you know. It's not like it's some big loss for her. Have you noticed what fantastic shape she's in?"

"Thank goodness, poor thing. Otherwise she never would have made out it of there. Why someone would go on a camping trip to try and work things out, I'll never know."

"Well, Jack's an idiot. Was. Serves him right for having a heart attack--"

"Shhh. Don't talk that way."

"--that far away from civilization. He was so into health foods too. Remember that whole spiel he used to give us about juicing and getting rid of toxins? Drove me nuts."

"You just about done? I've got to get back before Mack wonders if I fell in. Didn't it finally burn out 'cause he was using it so much?"

"His dick or the juicer?"

"Melody! You're so uncouth."

"Okay, I'm ready. Can't believe that she bought him another one for his birthday. Think she would have been fed up with his concoctions instead of helping him make them."

Laura leaned against the stall door and waited until she heard the heavy outside door thud shut. While lathering her hands she reflected on what the women had discussed.

Persuading Jack to go camping with her was easy. She knew he wouldn't want a long drawn out divorce. Did he really think it was the best place to talk things over?

Eight months before announcing his plans to marry Alexis, she had joined him on his health kick. Did he really think she didn't know about the tramp when half the town did?

She had worked out hard each night on that new exercise bike getting her fifty-year-old body into shape. Strong leg muscles were needed to get the heart rate up when hiking. Did he really think she was doing it for him?

Those hours she studied how to prepare organic foods and herbs to stay healthy. Did he really think that she was just as concerned as he was about health and the toxins that were going into his body?

Did he really think she was doing it all just for him?

He should have because she was.

She rubbed her eyes. They smarted and filled with tears. While rinsing her hands she allowed herself a quick smile before joining the other mourners.
